Today’s blog will be helpful no matter what is causing you fatigue. It hits us all. The good news is that you can hit back harder.
One of the most common causes of fatigue is damaged mitochondria, the little power factories we have in your cells. Mitochondria produce our body temperature and give us the strength to move and think. Anything from heavy metals, bad news, infections, grief, and pesticides in our food can damage them.
This is why many people turn to sugar and caffeine to feel energized. They are trying to create quick energy. A better strategy is to heal them because stimulants drain you more in the long run.
No matter the cause of your fatigue here are a few suggestions to help you:
- Rest – this is the easiest answer, yet one few follow. Schedule rest into your calendar. This includes a full night’s sleep as well as naps, and play time. I take a nap on weekends to start my week out strong. Rest also includes play that is not draining. This is something fun that you can do at the drop of the hat that recharges your batteries.
- Joy – do what makes you happy. This is another overlooked fatigue buster. Turn off the bad news, disconnect, and fill your love tank. You are not obligated to know everything, everywhere, all the time. It is ok to set limits on news, phone calls, social media, and people. And then fill the hole with heart time. Don’t let a literal bomb going off on the other side of the world stop you from keeping your appointment with you or God. Pray for the people involved, send money if you want, then shut off the media. If you don’t set a limit on the world’s sadness and trauma, then it will consume you. Joy is your strength, not being informed.
- Prayer/meditation – let God fill your spirit. You are made up of body, soul, and spirit. Each part of you needs “feeding” to have energy for life. Feeding your spirit looks like giving it attention. And the best attention is God’s loving presence. Your spirit longs for connection with the Divine, for in his presence you will experience forgiveness, peace, joy, hope, perspective, and belonging. Your deepest needs are met here. I know firsthand that time with him restores mitochondria!
- Clean Eating – we can no longer blindly trust food makers if we want to look and feel our best. Transition to as close to 100% organic food and clean water to eliminate mitochondria damaging chemicals. I was not supposed to recover from being bed-ridden, but changing what I ate made a big difference.
It’s not the one thing you do once that helps your energy. It is the many good things you do everyday. The thing with fatigue is not to give up. If one doctor does not have any answers, find one that does. If one supplement doesn’t work, try another. Record your results like a scientist… "this helps, that does not." Talk to your friends, read more blogs like this, hire a good health coach, or see a fatigue specialist. You have many options.
